Newly developed in 2015 through state-of-the-art technologies of Yamamoto Corporation, the material providing new sensations, “AFS (Air Face Skin),” totally defies conventional wisdom. We hope you will try this extraordinary futuristic-type wetsuit material that reduces the sense of wearing a wetsuit to the utmost limit of nearly “zero.”
Until now, general wetsuits for surfing and diving have had elastic knitted fabric inners to make them easier to put on and take off. (The downside of the knitted fabric is that it becomes cold once wet.)
No knitted fabric is used with wetsuits using the new Air Face Skin (AFS) material. The newly developed rubber material has a new surface treatment applied that realizes “zero percent” water absorption to keep the inside of the wetsuit dry. This technology eliminated the discomfort of wetness from water to nearly “zero” and meets the strong demand, especially from women.
To measure the friction characteristics of the materials, materials whose surfaces are respectively made from rubber (Smooth Skin), AFS and knitted fabric (Jersey) are placed on the boards, and then one side of each board is raised slowly to make an angle in a simplified manner. When we confirmed the angle at which the respective materials started to slide, the results were very obvious—proving clearly that the AFS’s friction characteristics are on par with easy-to-wear knitted fabrics.
You will understand this from the first time you use this material!
The one-of-a-kind Metallic Red (= AFS-1) color distinguishes the material from other wetsuits at a glance. In addition, it is now possible to apply special print patterns on the material. The Red Jaguar (= AFS-2) print material will be launched soon.
The new material “AFS” will usher in a new era for wetsuits.
